Guatemala's Pacific coast is one of the world's great sailfishing destinations, with catch rates among the highest anywhere. Decades of exceptional sailfish productivity have made the fishery a fixture on the international billfish calendar, and Guatemala is associated with the famous 124-sailfish single-boat release day.
What that means for a visiting angler is less about record numbers and more about consistency: a fishery that has rewarded well-run boats and disciplined release practice over a long period.
